The Best Ways to Cover From a Hard Workout

July 4th, 2010 by smith

If you do nothing after a workout, there is a good chance that you will quickly become sore or even sluggish.  Fortunately, you can take proactive steps to help your body recover faster than it would on its own.  Since everyone is a little different, there are a variety of different routes that you can take in order to speed up your bodies recovery.

  1. Refuel

During your workout, your body is not only consuming energy, but also tearing down your muscles.  By refueling your body within 1 hour of completing your workout, you can ensure that you body has the raw materials that it needs to minimize its recovery time.  A popular way to refuel you body is by taking a supplement of some kind.  The P90X Workout Results and Recovery Formula has become a popular option for many people.  It makes sure that your body has all of the vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that it needs to quickly recover and rebuild muscles.

  1. Smart Shower

A shower always feels great after a hard workout, but it can do more for your body that just feel refreshing.  By starting with a cooler shower, or even cold, it can help your body minimize the post workout inflammation that is common.  Once your body has cooled down for a few minutes, crank up the heat to jump-start your bodies blood circulation. Do this few times during your shower to get the maximum benefits of both temperatures.

  1. Sleep Smart

Sleep should be considered on the most important things that you can do for your body.  During sleep, your body essentially reboots.  Your body will tell your brain what muscles were used during the day and then it will increase the muscle and nerve recovery in those areas.  Additionally, your body will release a growth hormone which will naturally spur increased muscle size and strength.  If possible, your body can benefit greatly from a quick nap within a few hours of finishing a workout.  Naps should last at least 45 minutes to an hour, and when you are sleeping, try to sleep for at least 8 hours, but no more than 10.

There are a number of other ways to help your body recover quickly, but these 3 strategies have proven to benefit everyone.  You need to refuel your body with a supplement such as the P90X Results and Recovery Formula, make your shower more productive, and sleep smart.
